PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER SIZING GUIDE

You answered that your room is larger than 600 square feet.

For rooms this size, the space between the air conditioners may become problematic.

Turbididty, furniture, windows, doors, activity and warm bodies will all affect the ability of portable air conditioners to effectively and uniformly cool rooms of this size and larger without hot spots or cold spots.

There will be exceptions, such as rooms where spot cooling is desireable or temporarly cooling is the only options.

Examples may be the wedding party during their vows, a party tent, a pool enclosure, medical assistance at a large event, ticket booths, recovery point at a marathon, and many others.

For any of these instances, we recommend multiple smaller units over fewer larger ones. This also allows for between-season and multi-use flexibility when demand is not as large in the main area.

The cooling of a larger room may be best served by an energy effecient permanent, separately thermostated heat pump.

Here are some factors to determine your cooling needs:

• 600 square feet needs a minimum of 14,000 BTU cooling.
  
• For every 50 square feet, add 1,000 BTUs (example, 850 square feet = 19,000 BTUs)
  
• For additional heating loads such as a kitchen, add 4,000 BTUs
  
• For every 3rd permanent person starting with #3, add 1,500 BTUs
  
• If the room has full sun, add 1,500 BTUs for every two windows or fraction thereof
  (3 windows = 3,000 additional BTUs).
• Additional factors such as shading, insulation, celing height, and ventilation will have additional effect both for or against BTUs used
